"Beneath the Surface" by Marian Tiemann and Trudy Levy

PRESS RELEASE

Foundry Commons, Bloc5 and Paolo Mejia Fine Art and Design  are pleased to present “Beneath the Surface” by FUSE artists’ Marian Tiemann and Trudy Levy this April. In this April duo art show, Marian and Trudy will explore their own work to see what is beneath the apparent.

Through the lens of the camera and using different mediums to paint and make collages, Marian opens up the concept of a brilliant world exposed. Many surface layers create abstract expressive landscapes and revealing stories not always apparent at a glance. When we focus on beauty in daily life, the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

Playing with tweaking visual perception, Trudy examines how color, texture and context influence perception. Currently, she is looking to and referencing Cubists, graphic artists and Les Nabis for direction, in her work revealing a painting under a painting.

BLOC5 is hosting this event at Foundry Commons Microgallery, 868 S. 5th St, San Jose.

“Beneath the Surface’s” opening night will be in April 6 with a reception from 6 to 8 pm. In addition, the micro gallery will be open for viewing most weekends throughout April from 4pm to 7pm .

PRESS RELEASE

Jack London Square Realty, and Paolo Mejia Fine Art and Design are pleased to present “Personal Geography 2” by Francine Hsu Davis this March. In this March solo art show Francine will share her memories and experiences of her travels through her visual stories.

When traveling, Francine always carries a sketchbook to document the world. She documents urban landscapes of the world as her big inspiration for her art process. Her experience of sketching onsite, dealing with weather, pestering insects, strange stares, and even odder conversations left unforgettable memories for Francine. She captures these unforgettable memories through her sketches and later transfers them onto canvases using colorful oil paints. The colorful oil paints she uses are an attempt to capture those memories in a tangible way. Francine believes that it is important that we continue to share our stories to others in whatever medium that we can relay it with, so that people can learn about places and cultures that are familiar and unfamiliar. The more we share our stories, the better we can built community.
